Senior Spotlight 2025
Basey Dawson
“In school, you’re taught a lesson, then given a test. In life, you’re given a test, then taught a lesson.” A hard-working, fun-loving, kind-hearted, fast-talking rancher, Basey Dawson takes the tests of life with a thick skin, then philosophizes about the lessons. Pursuing an Ag Business degree at BMCC after graduation, this student, who is part-veterinarian, part-trickster, tends to brighten people’s days with her humor and wit. Basey once caught a deer with her bare hands, pulled her first lamb at three, and had a horse bump her off a cliff in Hell’s Canyon. Here’s to more of life’s tests!

Senior Spotlight
Kellen Crenshaw
Rock solid, water fluid, woodgrain grown, Kellen Crenshaw is a multigenerational expression of Wallowa County. His high-energy enthusiasm lends itself well to hard work, problem-solving through tough situations, and his never-quit attitude. Tough as basalt, adaptable as water, Kellen has filled a variety of roles during his years at Joseph Charter: team leader, selfless sacrificer, class joker, and energizer. Kellen’s advice to underclassmen is to “Take care of your cows, clear the trees that need clearing, and buckle down.” His favorite memory was making it to the state championship in football in 2023. Next year, he’s headed to BMCC to major in Agriculture.
Senior Spotlight 2025
Juan Vargas
A young man on a historical mission, Juan Vargas is a walking encyclopedia of dates, political, social, economic, and cultural knowledge. He is a classic Chevy Malibu cruising down a two-lane critical thinking road, destination: military college. Hoo-ah. Juan says he has a lot of favorite memories about the legal and illegal shenanigans of his class. “Don’t do what I did and stay on top of your assignments,” says Juan, “because once that ship sails, it becomes ancient history.”
