The Wallowa County Stockgrowers Association and Joseph School District have partnered up to get beef donations into all three Wallowa County school cafeterias. After hearing how Baker schools managed their beef donations at the Farm to School Conference in February, Miranda Micka, the Child Nutrition Program Manager for the Joseph School District thought Wallowa County could easily put the same program into place.
Ranchers wishing to donate beef should notify Miranda Micka (541-263-1560) and call Billy Bob’s (USDA Certified) in Elgin, OR to arrange processing (541-437-6328). Ranchers can request a donation receipt from Miranda to use for tax purposes. Each school has obtained Farm to School Reimbursement grants to cover the processing cost. Once the beef is ready for pick up, Miranda Micka will distribute the beef to Wallowa, Enterprise, and Joseph Schools. Miranda would like to thank Cynthia Warnock for being a great point of contact with the Stockgrowers and for all her help coordinating this effort.

Team captain, self-starter, and outstanding human being, Jaxon Grover is a hard-working and kind-hearted centrifugal force of Joseph Charter sports and hallways. His favorite memory was this year’s state championship football game. He says, “Leave it all on the line and give your all.” Next year he will be attending EOU to pursue a degree in education.

This year our yearbook club has been very busy trying to promote community involvement in our school. Joseph Charter School utilizes the school website, Facebook, Instagram as well as our School App to keep community members informed. Technology is a useful tool but we also feel that it is important to have memories passed on and retained in a school yearbook for each graduating class.
